Introduction video of Sharif PMS (Parking Management System)
What is Intelligent Parking Management?
Until the beginning of the 21st century, there was virtually no intelligent visual surveillance for managing multi-story parkings anywhere in the world. With the increase in processing power, cameras’ capabilities, and their decreasing costs, the path was paved for the presence of visual surveillance systems in parkings.
The intelligent management system for multi-story parkings, developed by Sharif University of Technology’s CONNECT group, offers a wide range of capabilities to multi-story parking managers. With this system, they can easily and intelligently oversee all of their parking facilities. This product is registered as a Type 1 knowledge-based product and is part of the knowledge-based products family.
Software Features
Various Sections of the Software
The intelligent visual management system software consists of four distinct yet interdependent sections. These four sections are:
- Parking Space Management Software
- Central Data Mining Software
- Payment Management Software
- Central Management Software
Parking Space Management Software
This software, the only application embedded within the system’s onboard unit, is responsible for detecting the presence or absence of vehicles in designated parking spaces. The results of the analyses are consistently stored in a database located on the central parking server. Furthermore, in the event of detecting any predefined abnormal behavior, it notifies the central server through alerts. This software provides a web-based user interface for operators, allowing them to configure the cameras
Central Data Mining Software
This software, by analyzing various data collected from all cameras and payment stations installed across the parking facility and stored in the database, seeks to identify specific and meaningful patterns for enhanced parking management. Some of the features this software can provide to managers include:
- Customer scoring based on parking usage
- Offering incentive plans to loyal customers
- Identifying preferred parking spots for drivers on different levels
Payment Management Software
This software is installed within the payment stations and possesses the following features:
- Online search for the vehicle’s parking location
- Online viewing of the vehicle’s parking spot image
- Online payment of the parking fee
- Performing any operations related to parking spaces, including reservations, cancellations, etc.
Central Management Software
This software assumes the role of an overseer for all installed systems within the parking facility. The central database to which all cameras send their results is integrated into this software. Additionally, this software provides all the managerial dashboards accessible to various levels of management. Some of the key features of this software include:
- Monitoring the performance of all cameras
- Monitoring the performance of the in-parking payment stations
- Providing a centralized database for all cameras
- Archiving camera images
- Enabling reservation and cancellation of parking spots through both web and mobile app
Hardware
In this system, two 5-megapixel color cameras are dedicated to monitoring 6 parking spots (3 parking spots on each side). This system utilizes an Embedded System for processing the images captured by these cameras. The processing power of these cameras is capable of handling 15 frames per second for visual surveillance. The system is powered through a 24-volt, 1-amp power supply. The communication between the central server and this system occurs via an Ethernet network connection.
Customers and Feedback
Customer Satisfaction: Accompanying Customers
Given that all aspects of software and hardware for this system have been designed by the technical team present at Sharif University, the possibility of adding any desired software or hardware features required by the customer exists.
Positioning and tracking of vehicles in multiple cameras, sending special SMS notifications upon recognizing a license plate, and the system for calculating parking fees in public parking lots are among the software extensions that can be added to the License Plate Recognition system. Additionally, the design of a communication circuit with smart home systems, including summoning elevators, turning on coolers, or various electronic devices, is feasible in the hardware section.
